Re: Weapons of Mass Sonic Destruction Thread...
Found a store about an hour away that has Windsors for around 400 euros. The demo videos on youtube sounded amazing. Now I still need a cab, and I've heard that unfortunately the Windsor cab isn't all that...

I always give 'em a go when I'm down at the music store and they just sound fucking ace!

Haven't tried one out unfortunately, but pretty much everyone is positive about it. Did try out a Orange Rocker 30 watt combo, which sounded lovely, but is a tad more expensive. Combined with a proper distortion pedal it'll probably sound fucking massive. But then again, it's also double the price...

Nah, if you're going to get something like the Rocker 30, turn up the Master Volume to full, and let your power valves provide the distortion for you... sounds much nicer than adding a pedal. Just add gain to taste.

Re: Weapons of Mass Sonic Destruction Thread...
I'm thinking of getting either a Gibson SG Standard or a 61 Reissue. I haven't played on the 61 Reissue yet, and the store that has is isn't exactly close to where I live. Any opinions on it?

Surprised you haven't had an answer on the SG question - I can't help I'm afraid.
I've just bought a Laney G50 head and cab which I am much enamoured with. Sounds great. Need to get a new distortion pedal though (as I dropped mine and now it sounds crap) - I'm thinking RAT, any other suggestions?

I don't think I've seen that Laney model; do you have a photo of it? Last night, the guitar player in the band Corsair used one of these, and it sounded great: http://www.fulltone.com/ocd.aspRobin Trower uses one these days, also. J

Any opinions on it? You need a standard, great guitars, though I think they are overpriced for what they are, and you should look around and try different stuff out. Just bought a Vox tonelab st for homerehearsal through headphones, best money I've invested for some time and blows the piss out of anybody elses guitar processors (Zoom etc)

It's this one http://www.laney.co.uk/show_prod.php?prod=gh50l50W - got a great sound out of it straight away, even using a Metalzone! Unfortunately I then dropped the Metalzone so am now on the hunt for a new pedal. Tried a Blackstar dual distortion (this one http://www.blackstaramps.co.uk/products/ht/htdual.html) and a Rat but didn't like either. I'm in the studio on Saturday and apparently the engineer has loads of different pedals so I'm going to try a few and see if I like any. Rich - interested to see you like the Vox Tonelab, I've heard some bad reviews but I am interested in hearing one. I have very basic needs - bit of delay, touch of reverb, possibly some chorus so they could be an option. Is it the cheaper brown one or the big buggery silver one?

Re: Weapons of Mass Sonic Destruction Thread...
Well in the end I didn't have chance to really see how the Laney sounded in the studio as it blew a fuse and I didn't have any spares.
So I ended up using a Matamp black with a DAM Sonic Titan pedal. Sounded great but not really something I can recreate unless my lottery numbers come up!

Its this one, its ok for home rehearsing though I wouldn't recommend it for anything else

Rich - let me know when it goes on. Although I expect it'll go for stupid money. Might also be worth putting a note on the DAM forum - there's always people looking for them on there.

Fuck me, that Sonic Titan looks appetizing. Too bad I simply don't have the cash for it.
